Breaking Down the Libero Uniform Rule Change in Volleyball

In Volleyball, the defensive specialists who can enter the match for any player on the court, as long as they stay in the back row is known as the Libero.  There are special rules for play in order to foster more digs and rallies and to make the game more exciting overall. In additional to the game rules, there are uniform guidelines that go along with the position as well.

In 2016, the NFHS initiated a rule change for Volleyball and the Libero uniform.   Although it may be a little confusing, we have broken down the rule for you to help add some clarity.

Whether it is the team or the Libero, there needs to be a clearly defined contrast in color on at least half of the uniform.  If the Libero is in a solid uniform, then the team can be in a design and vice versa.  We have shown an example below from our Augusta Sportswear brand as well as our High Five Sportswear brand.

When in doubt, it is always a good idea to check with your governing body or state rules when deciding prior to purchasing uniforms for your organization.
